AWES Shines at County Chess Tournament

This past weekend, a few of our Wildcats traveled to the 2026 Douglas County Chess Tournament, held this year at Brighten Academy — and they didn’t just compete… they made school history! ♟️🏆

For the first time ever, our school brought home the 3rd Place Overall Trophy in the Elementary School Division!

A massive shout-out goes to two of our standout competitors who dominated their matches:

⭐ Melanie Serrano Pena — 2nd Place Overall

⭐ Terrieal Mann — 5th Place Overall

We would also like to recognize Lyla Baker for stepping up to gain valuable tournament experience and represent our Wildcats with pride.

These students demonstrated incredible grit, focus, strategy, and poise under pressure. Their performances are a true reflection of the dedication and perseverance they have shown all year long.

We also celebrate our 3rd and 5th grade STAR students. After spending the fall semester sharpening their skills, building mental toughness, and mastering key concepts, their hard work clearly paid off.

Please join us in giving a huge round of applause to our chess champions — we are beyond proud of you!
